SE 101: Confidentiality

"Confidentiality" is one of five quizzes about Student Employment. When you have completed all five quizzes, Career Services will forward a certificate of completion to your supervisor.

Your answers will not be forwarded to your supervisor.

The Quiz

Please provide your student employee information. An asterisk indicates a required field.

1.) A messenger carries a document into the office in an unsealed envelope that is marked "CONFIDENTIAL", with the assistant director's name from your department on it. The messenger is a friend of mine and another student I work with in the office. How should the envelope be passed from the messenger to the assistant director?

  1. Since I am friends with the messenger, the envelope can be opened and the message looked at before being passed on to the assistant director.
  2. The envelope should be delivered to the assistant director unopened.
  3. The envelope should be opened and each of the pages stamped "CONFIDENTIAL" before being passed on to the assistant director.
  4. Tell the messenger to make sure the envelope is sealed and tell him to deliver it to the assistant director on his own.

2.) Last Tuesday, I missed my Psychology class. There is a test in a week and I need the notes from the class I missed. I know the name of an individual in my class, but do not know how to contact him. I have access to the student information system at work. Is it OK to access the system to get this person's information?

  1. Yes, I can look up anything I want at work on this individual.
  2. Yes, but I am only allowed to look up his phone number, and nothing else.
  3. No, I am not allowed to look up any personal information.
  4. Yes, I am allowed to look this person up, but will need his social security number to do so.

3.) During winter quarter, I took the same history class with a friend. It is now the start of spring quarter, and I am curious how my friend did in the class. I have access to student records in my on-campus job. Can I use my access to see what grade my friend got in the class?

  1. My friend trusts me, so I am allowed to look at her record.
  2. I am really not supposed to, but I can take a look at her grades when nobody is paying attention to what I am doing.
  3. I am not allowed, because it is against university policy and Federal guidelines.
  4. Because it is my first year on the job, I am not allowed, but if I work in the same department again next year, I will have the proper clearance to look up my friend's grades.
