Maximum Working Hours for Student Employment

Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week when classes are in session, a maximum of 30 hours per week during exam weeks, and a maximum of 40 hours per week during breaks (when classes are not in session).

The total number of hours worked for one week is the combination of all hours worked at all of the student employment jobs and graduate or teaching assistantships held by the student employee.

Students may never exceed a total of 40 hours in one week.

Students using Federal Work Study in an off-campus tutoring program

Students using Federal Work Study in an off-campus tutoring program may only work 20 hours per week.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may work a maximum of 30 hours per week when classes are in session, excluding international students, and Federal Work Study students in an off campus tutoring program.

International Students

International students may work 20 hours a week while school is in session and during exam weeks.  International students may work 40 hours per week during breaks if they are pre-registered for the required hours for the quarter immediately following the break.

During Summer quarter, international students who are considered full time registered students (12 hours for undergraduate students; 8 hours for graduate students) may work 20 hours per week. International students who are considered part time registered students may work 40 hours per week. International students who are not taking classes during Summer quarter may work 40 hours per week as long as they are pre-registered for the required hours for the upcoming Fall quarter.

On campus work hours are a combination of hours worked for all positions at Wright State University, including graduate assistantships.

International students who are registered as full time students at any time may never exceed 20 hours per week, per immigration regulations [8 C.F.R. § 214.2(f) (9) (i)].  International students who exceed the allowable hours will be terminated immediately from all Student Employment positions.
