Special Programs

Co-op and Internships

The office of Career Services will advise students, via individual appointment, with application to established internship programs. The office also maintains long standing liaison relationships with some special programs.

Programs with Campus Liaison Relationships

The Disney College Program hires students to work in a variety of basic roles throughout Walt Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, and at Disneyland, in Anaheim, California. A limited number of professional internships are available for higher level students; previous successful participation in the Disney College Program confers an advantage to professional internship applicants. Career Services maintains a liaison relationship with the the Disney College Program, which conducts on campus information sessions and interview sign up.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars offers internship placements with a variety of governmental and non-governmental agencies in and around Washington, D. C.; some placements across the U.S.; special programs affiliated with the presidential nominating conventions and inauguration; and internship placements in Quebec, Canada; London or Oxford, England; and Sydney, Australia. Career Services maintains a liaison relationship with The Washington Center. Campus liaison approval is required for application.

Opportunities for all majors, with placements based on personal interests and field of study.

Other Programs

Career Services has assisted students with application to a variety of programs in which the students have reported successful experiences.

The Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) Student Research Program provides research internships for undergraduate and graduate science and engineering students at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate and the Air Force Institute of Technology. Students benefit both academically and financially by working in state-of-the-art laboratories with top professionals in their field.

The U.S. Department of State offers domestic and overseas experiences for students. Application is highly competitive.

Inroads invites application from talented minority students for positions in business and industry, and develops those candidates for corporate and community leadership. Inroads recommends students for co-op positions with regional corporations.

Post Graduation Plans

Founded to reduce critical underrepresentation of minorities on school faculties, the Institute for Recruitment of Teachers helps prepare qualifying students who are interested in pursuing graduate degrees with the end goal of a career in teaching or educational admininstration, at any level in the education system. Career Services maintains a liaison relationship with the Institute for Recruitment of Teachers, which conducts on campus interviews.

Peace Corps is an agency of the U.S. government, which places qualifying candidates in a variety of outreach and development positions overseas. Opportunities for all majors, with placements in urban and rural environments.

Students interested in Peace Corps experience may request application advising in Career Services and should explore the program at least one year in advance of intended start date.
