How to Register for Co-op or Internship
Links on this page open in a separate window.
When you register your co-op or internship as part of your university course of study, through Career Services, there are advantages and benefits to you. Use the following link to understand some of the reasons we recommend co-op and internship registration:
Why Register?
The Step by Step Process
To register, follow the step by step process:
Check eligibility requirements to determine that you are eligible to work in a co-op or internship position.
Your work experience must be related to your field of study and must include on-site supervision. Review overview of co-op and internship.
If you have holds of any kind on your account, Career Services can not register you. Be sure your Wright State account is cleared of holds prior to applying for co-op or internship registration; visit the Bursar's Office to clear all debt.
Plan to register for co-op or internship prior to the beginning of the quarter in which you will be working. If you are hired into a potential co-op or internship after the quarter begins, contact Career Services to inquire about your options.
International students cannot begin working until their eligibility has been verified through UCIE and they have been registered for co-op or internship. International students must read the International Student Co-op Registration Procedures.
Call Career Services for an appointment, 937.775.2556. You will meet with the Career Services adviser who serves as a liaison to your College. If you do not know the name of your college liaison, Career Services will identify them for you.
Bring the following information to your appointment:
- UID number
- cumulative GPA
- Status in school (sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student)
- The degree you are pursuing: bachelor, master, doctorate
- Your major
- Your college (College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Math, College of Nursing and Health, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Raj Soin College of Business, School of Professional Psychology, School of Medicine)
- Your mailing address, city, state, zip code (an address where documents and correspondence can reliably be sent for your receipt, while you are at school or on your co-op or internship assignment)
- Your home phone number
- Your work phone number
- Your email address
- The number of hours per week you will work in your co-op
- The source of your information about the position
- Your co-op or internship job title
- Your hourly wage for this co-op or internship position
- Your on-site supervisor salutation (Dr., Mr., Mrs., etc) name
- Your on-site supervisor email address
- The employing company name
- Employing company full mailing address
- Employing company Web page
- Employing company telephone
- Employing company FAX number
Your Career Services adviser will have you complete a Co-op Acceptance Form (for co-ops and internships), or a Liberal Arts Learning Contract (for College of Liberal Arts Credit).
Career Services will verify your cumulative GPA and status.
Career Services will register you for a cooperative education course, which appears on your transcript with the course prefix CPE; or for a Liberal Arts Learning Contract, course prefix LA.
Once again, make sure your Wright State account is cleared of holds prior to applying for co-op or internship registration; visit the Bursar's Office to clear all debt.
At the end of your co-op term, you are required to
- complete an exit interview with your Career Services adviser;
- submit a minimum one page summary of your work experience, what you did and learned, and how it relates to your studies.
Students registered for a Liberal Arts Learning Contract are also required to have a summary meeting with their faculty mentor, and the faculty mentor must submit a final grade recommendation to Career Services.
Your site supervisor will be asked to complete a performance evaluation form.
If any elements in the final evaluation process are not turned in by the original due date, you will receive a grade of "Incomplete," pending completion of the required steps.
If you plan to continue in the co-op or internship program the next quarter (with the same or a new employer), bring the information listed in item #5 to the exit interview.
Periodically review your WINGS Express account to verify that you have been registered for the course, and, after the end of term and after completion of course requirements, that a final grade has been posted.
