LA 201 Effective Career Planning

Holland Codes

The Effective Career Planning course will lead you through the five steps of career planning decision-making:

  • Know yourself.
  • Explore and investigate career fields.
  • Test drive careers.
  • Make a decision.
  • Evaluate your choice.

Activities in the course will assist you in choosing a major and career options that best fit YOU. Activities in the course include:

  • Identify the criteria that you will use to determine career options that fit you;
  • Investigate your values, interests, and skills using DISCOVER, a web-based interactive career exploration tool;
  • Determine your Myers-Briggs code through an on-line personal styles assessment;
  • Take a Guided Imagery Tour and explore your career 10 years in the future;
  • Integrate your personal strengths, interests, personal style into an understanding of work environments, tasks and responsibilities, and people interaction that you desire in an "Ideal" Work Situation.

This two-credit hour web-based course is offered Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Quarters.

Who Should Take LA 201?

The course is designed primarily for first and second year students who are undecided about an academic major, or students who may have chosen a major but are not sure if it it is the right major for them. LA201 is currently taught as an online course.
