Student Employment Rehire Process - Summer and Fall Rehires

Summer Rehire

Supervisors of all current student employees who will be working during summer quarter will need to complete and submit a new authorization form for each student.  Students must submit the authorization form in person to the Career Services office so that Student Employment can confirm the student's course enrollment, status for OPERS enrollment or exemption, and Federal Work Study status.

All paperwork must be submitted to Career Services no later than 3:30 pm on the Monday before time sheets are due to ensure that a time sheet is up and ready before it must be submitted.

Authorization forms will not be accepted by mail except from Lake Campus .

Summer Registration

To be eligible for on-campus student employment, students planning on working during the summer must be registered for either summer quarter or pre-registered for fall quarter.  All student employees working summer quarter must be registered for classes by their summer employment start date.  All student employees may work up to 40 hours per week during summer quarter, except for some restrictions on international students.  Student employees are never permitted to work over 40 hours per week.

Summer Registration for International Students

International students may work 20 hours per week during summer if they are considered full-time students during summer quarter (12 credit hours as an undergraduate student, and 8 credit hours as a graduate student).  International student employees may work 40 hours per week during the summer if they are considered a part-time student during summer quarter (6 credit hours as an undergraduate, and 4 credit hours as a graduate student).

Summer OPERS

Student employees may be exempt from OPERS (Ohio Public Employees Retirement System) during the summer quarter if undergraduate students are registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours and graduate students are registered for a minimum of 4 credit hours.  This can be a combination of Summer A, B or C quarters.

Student employees must contribute to OPERS during summer quarter if they are not registered for the minimum number of credit hours for the quarter, 6 credit hours for undergraduate students, and 4 credit hours for graduate students.

Please note: Credit Hour Requirement for OPERS

Students falling below the minimum credit hour requirement during the quarter will immediately be enrolled in OPERS .

Summer Work Study

Student employees wanting to use work study must accept the work study award by their summer employment start date.  A student employee must be registered for 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 4 credit hours as a graduate student for the summer quarter in order to use his/her Federal Work Study award during the summer.

Fall Rehire

In July, Student Employment will send supervisors an Excel spreadsheet to complete that identifies all student employees who will be rehired with the start of Fall Quarter. The completed form with all of the require information must be submitted to Student Employment by August 1.

Eligibility

For students to be eligible to be processed as a rehired student employee, students must be registered for Fall Quarter classes by August 1, meet the minimum required number of credit hours, and if offered Federal Work Study in the Financial Aid package have accepted or declined their award.

Any student on the Fall Rehire form who has not pre-registered for Fall Quarter classes by August 1, who will be employed for Fall Quarter must submit a Student Employment Authorization form.
