Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (I R T)

The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers was founded to assist African American, Latino, and Native American students pursuing advanced degrees for teaching, counseling and educational administration careers so the pool of potential faculty members at both the K through 12, and university levels, would grow more diverse.

Each year IRT selects 25 to 30 junior and senior status interns of diverse backgrounds to participate in an intense four week summer workshop at Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts, in preparation for graduate study toward a career in education. Additionally, some students and alumni are chosen to participate in a nonresidential associates program.

Applications are accepted from undergraduate majors in all colleges at Wright State, with the exception of social work.

IRT Makes Graduate School Affordable

Participants receive substantial support and advocacy from IRT staff in the graduate school application process, and more than 90% of participating students have received a full tuition waiver and partial to full fellowship funding for up to six years of graduate study at IRT consortium institutions.

Review the list of consortium schools, eligibility requirements, program overview, and support services, on the IRT Web site: http://www.andover.edu/SUMMERSESSIONOUTREACH/IFROTEACHERS/Pages/default.aspx

To learn more about the I R T program, ask questions, and learn how it has benefitted other Wright State students, and express your interest in I R T and the on campus interviews, please call Debra Wilburn at 937-775-2556, or email debra.wilburn@wright.edu, I R T campus liaison in Career Services.
