Ohio Minimum Wage to increase $ .15 in 2008

Information on the web page of the Division of Labor & Worker Safety of the Ohio Department of Commerce has posted the new Ohio minimum wage effective on January 1, 2008.

The minimum wage will be $7.00 per hour.

The WSU Student Employment Program will implement the increase in the minimum wage with the pay period that begins on December 29, 2007.

The $. 15 increase will be applied to the base wage for classes 1 through 5. Thus, the new starting wage rates on December 29, 2007, will be:

Class 1, $7.00
Class 2, $7.40
Class 3, $7.80
Class 4, $8.15
Class 5, $9.15

The wage rate change will affect approximately 400 students.

Students earning a wage higher than the base rate for their class, 1 through 5, will not see any increase.

Returning students received an annual increase of $.50 that was effective July 1, 2007 and applied when they began working after this date.

Thank you,
