Annual Wage Increases Replace Step IncreasesStudent employees in classes 1-5 who are rehired in their positions for summer or fall quarter will see a 50¢/hour increase in their wage rates beginning July 1. The implementation of the wage increase at the start of the new budget year will allow departments to budget for student employee wage increases and is consistent with the office of Human Resources operations. Previously, student employees averaged 40¢ in step increases over a calendar year. The 50¢ wage increase is a slight increase and is similar to what students previously earned in step increases. Thus, the wage increase will have similar budget implications as in previous years. The annual wage increase will not have an earnings cap which is a change in the previous step increase policy. The annual wage increase will be applied to new positions and promotions as were step increases. The office of Student Employment will automatically adjust the annual wage for rehired student employees during the rehiring process. For this year, the wage increase will become effective with the pay period that begins on June 30 and that is paid on July 20. For students returning during fall quarter, they will see the wage increase in their first pay of the fall quarter. Supervisors of student employees with non-continuous employment during the raise process should contact Student Employment regarding wage increases. |
